103 Clients In 5 Weeks Using Trojan Horse Marketing Strategy?!

Disclaimer: This does not include word of mouth referrals etc.

So this story/case study is a stand out one for me, not only because it is for my partner Elise but it is completely unheard of in the hairdressing game around Wakefield!

Bit of context:

My partner recently finished her apprenticeship and was looking for a job. She didn’t like the salon environment but did love hair. So after a few weeks of her toying with the idea, she decided to go mobile.

She knows a lot about hair and is extremely talented with hair but when it comes to marketing and getting customers and clients she is like a deer in the headlights.

This is what her calendar looked like:

So me being the good boyfriend I said “You know what, let me do it for you!”

And this is when it all started…

I studied closely what current hair salons were doing - which was very old-fashioned and would take her a year+ to get booked out.

So I thought - scrap that! What works with other local service based businesses that I’ve worked with??

Phase 1

Leaflets.

But doesn’t everyone just throw them in the bin?

That was the one roadblock we had to pass…

Finding a way to get people to open and read these leaflets.

So I studied her target audience and thought about disguising it as something they couldn’t resist opening…

WEDDING INVITES!

But when they open them they see our offer!

And after these bad boys, we were up to a steady 40 paying clients from 500 leaflets…

Phase 2

Now, I wasn’t going to keep walking around posting these leaflets for much longer - I was way too busier to be playing Postman Pat…

So it was time to unleash the paid ads with good old Meta.

All I did was take the core offer, put it on a disruptive visual and add in some quirky entertaining copy that sells better than water in a desert.

Simples…

And guess what, it worked like crazy!

We were getting leads/clients at £2 a pop

Then it was just a matter of rinse and repeat.

This is a snapshot of her calendar after running ads:

I could have just sat back and waited for her calendar to fill out but I don’t like to sit around and wait…

Phase 3

So just to really put the cherry on the cake I had to get her ranked number one on Google for “Mobile Hair Dressers in Wakefield”…

This way we don’t even need to rely on ad spend as most people who want a mobile hairdresser will type that in and boom straight to the site.

Now what?!

Now we are currently in the works to see how we can increase her capacity as her calendar is busier than the M62 during rush hour.

Do I get her a salon or do I sack off marketing to become a hairstylist to help her out? 😂

P.S. If you need a hand with your marketing to get you running at full capacity, just drop me an email…
